Fence panels

Ready-made panels between posts. Quicker and more affordable than site-built closeboard, and easy to replace if one bay is damaged.

Fence panels for gardens in Cambridgeshire

Fence panels are factory-made timber bays that slot or fix between posts. They are the most common choice for domestic gardens: faster to install than board-by-board closeboard, simpler to replace after storm damage, and available in several styles and heights.

We supply and fit quality panels - not the thinnest grade on the market - with concrete posts and gravel boards where the ground calls for them. Soft Fen peat is hard on timber posts; we will tell you honestly when concrete is worth the extra.

Common questions

What size are standard fence panels?

Most UK garden fence panels are 1.83m (6') wide. Heights commonly run from about 0.9m (3') up to 1.83m (6'). We measure your run and order or cut to suit awkward lengths.

How much do fence panels cost?

A standard 6' × 6' lap panel starts from around £27.41 inc VAT for supply only. Closeboard-style panels start from around £40.33. Fully fitted prices include posts, gravel boards and labour - see fencing prices or ask for a free quote.

Lap panels vs closeboard vs feather-edge - what's the difference?

Lap (overlap) panels are the common waney-edge or overlap design - cheaper and quicker. Closeboard-style panels look more solid and mimic site-built closeboard. Feather-edge boards are the individual boards used to build traditional closeboard fencing on site.

How long do fence panels last?

Pressure-treated panels on concrete posts with gravel boards typically last 10-20 years. Thin cheap panels, timber posts in wet peat, and no gravel board fail sooner - especially after Fen winters.

Can fence panels be fitted into concrete posts?

Yes. Slotted concrete posts are the usual durable option. Panels sit in the slots above a gravel board, which keeps the timber off wet soil. More on posts and gravel boards.
